Barn Door Beergarden

Hi, guys!

I’m back with a review on a new restaurant in Accra.

Barn Door Beergarden is a restaurant in Nyaniba, centred on serving local craft beer & the kind of food that goes along with it. It’s a casual space, with wooden seating, concrete floors & plants everywhere.

I didn’t take photos of the inside, but it plays very much into the concept of a barn & personally, I enjoy these kinds of architectural conversions.

The outdoor space is nice & breezy & there are umbrellas to cover you from the sun.

They have quite a casual menu which I think is a cross between “heavy” & “finger” foods, like pizza & tacos which goes with the general vibe of the space.

To drink, I got a Hibiscus Beer from Tale [on tap] & I really enjoyed that. It was a little sweet from hints of the hibiscus, but not in an overpowering way. I’ve never had a fruity/floral/herbal beer, but this was really refreshing.

My date on the other hand was in quite the ‘brunch’ mood, so with a lot of enquiries & accomodations, the bartender & waitstaff brought us some Prosecco & a pitcher of juice so we could have mimosas. This wasn’t a menu option, so I thought it was really sweet & fantastic customer service to indulge us the way they did.

To eat, we got a seafood platter, some hotdogs & some grilled chicken. The seafood platter was fantastic. The prawns were big & seasoned nicely, there was this fish [I don’t know what kind] that was so juicy & flaky. So good. The calamari wasn’t bad, it could’ve been a bit crispier, but it was tasty. The fries had a Cajun seasoning which was also good [you can’t really screw up fries], but the zucchini was a little boring for me. The pumpkin mash made a good “dipping sauce” for the platter also. I really enjoyed it.

I got a California hot dog, which I think would’ve been better with a different kind of sausage. There’s avocado on the hotdog with tomatoes & mayo & cheese so I think a more seasoned sausage with a bit of a bite to it, would’ve complimented the flavours & the textures better.

I have a personal bias towards grilled chicken in general so I’m very rarely impressed by it, but as far as cooking goes, the chicken was done well. It was soft & seasoned.

Now, the price range.

Food ranges from GHS 15 – GHS 320, drinks range from GHS 25 – GHS 2200.

The waitstaff was friendly & attentive. Barn Door Beergarden is open Monday to Sunday from 12pm to 11pm till Saturday, & till 10pm on Sundays.

Go check it out & let me know what you think.

Tribeca

Hi, guys!

I’m back with another review [back to back, right? I know. Crazy…] of a restaurant I’ve been meaning to check out.

Tribeca is an Asian-fusion restaurant in Accra, with a lovely outdoor space, as well as indoor seating. There’s this humongous ceiling fan I’m completely obsessed with. Their furnishings are quite “earthy” with wood & clay accents everywhere.

To drink, I got a cocktail called The Mask. It was tropical & fruity, not too sweet, not too strong. It was good.

To eat, for starters, my date & I shared some spicy edamame & tempura prawns, then we got some guacamole & chips on the house. The chips were fresh & crispy, the guac was fresh, the edamame was good & the prawns were quite tasty. As far as starters go, there were no complaints.

For mains, I got a Steak Me Home which was a steak poke bowl, & my date got a Have a Teriyaki-ffick Day which was a salmon teriyaki poke bowl.

Personally, I’m not a fan of sticky rice, so this was a little difficult for me to get through. Seasoning-wise, there wasn’t much going on either. There wasn’t enough salt, or a taste of anything else, really. As a dish, it was a bit bland for me. My date, on the other hand, enjoyed her meal quite a bit.

Now, the price range.

Food ranges from GHS 80 – GHS 250 and cocktails range from GHS 85 – GHS 95. I unfortunately didn’t see the cost of other drinks as I only got the cocktail menu.

Go check it out & let me know what you think.

Thanks for reading.

Lasu Lo

Hi, guys!

Back with a review of a spot I’ve been meaning to check out for a few years, to be honest. So glad I finally got the chance.

Lasu Lo is a steakhouse/BBQ spot in East Legon. It has open space with ample seating spread out, so you can enjoy the privacy of a meal without being shoulder to shoulder with another table. As a fan of outdoor seating, this was perfect for me.

The attraction that made me want to check this spot out is the fact that your meat selection is brought to you right off the grill & chopped/carved in front of you.

Also, you have to make a reservation before you go because you have to make a selection of your preferred “meats” for barbecuing. My date & I chose sausages, chicken, turkey, lamb & beef, with an assortment of sides.

The waitstaff are neat, wearing gloves each time they handle the food. It was nice to see that specific consideration.

They also wait until you’re ready for the next selection before they bring it, which is important because who wants cold barbecue?

They don’t really do cocktails, so the drink options were limited to water, red wine & the usual soda options [coke, sprite…]. I don’t like red wine & I usually don’t drink soda, so this was quite limiting for me. I ended up with a Sprite and water while my date had wine.

To start us off, they brought the sausages [they ask what you want to start with before they bring in the food] which were seasoned very well & tender even though the skin was nice & taut.

For the sides, they brought some naan, a fresh salad, some coleslaw & a basket of “assorted fries” with were French fries, fried yam & fried [Ghanaian] sweet potato, and a bunch of different condiments.

The fry-basket was honestly one of my favourite things on the table, & so innovative because all three of those root vegetables go so nicely with almost any kind of protein. The contrast of textures & flavours was so good.

The salad was fresh & crunchy, the coleslaw was cool & creamy and the naan was warm. The sides were a perfect accompaniment to the grilled meat.

Next was the chicken & turkey wing. With regards to tenderness, they were both juicy & soft, but they both had a taste I couldn’t get behind so I couldn’t get through much of either.

After that was the lamb and beef, both of which were also tender & tasty but by the time they had come to the table, I was pretty full, so I couldn’t finish it all.

Now, the price range.

At the time I went, there was a range from about GHS 200 – GHS 800, but there have been price adjustments recently, so I am no longer sure. The upside is that you find out what the prices are when you make your reservation, so regardless you’ll know what you’re paying before you even get there.

Lasu Lo is open Thursday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 22:00. I didn’t see a sign indicating where exactly the restaurant is, just a big gate, so look out for that.

Check it out & let me know what you think.

Yoofin Ghana

Happy New Year, Guys!

I know, I know. We’re in May, but it’s been a while, so I must.

A new restaurant popped up on my Instagram ‘For You’ page so a few friends & I decided to go check it out.

Yoofin is a Japanese restaurant that originally started as a Japanese fried chicken joint in Lapaz. They’ve since moved into this new space at Airport, but they also run a poultry farm.

It’s a nice quaint space with indoor, outdoor & upstairs seating, and with proximity to the road, this makes for nice people watching.

The space is open, airy & nicely lit; a bonus for people who like to take pictures of their food or even themselves. It’s rustic & minimal, an aesthetic I quite enjoy for restaurants.

To eat, I got a Ramen mini. The broth was quite simple, yet tasty & the noodles were cooked just right. It came garnished with ginger & spring onions, chopsticks & a spoon on the side to use for your broth.

My friends got the gyoza and karaage, both of which I tried but did not photograph & they were so good! The karaage was hot & crispy and so fresh. It’s probably a best seller. The gyoza was tasty too.

To drink, I got a Club. They didn’t have too many available options on their drink menu, but they just opened so they’re working on it.

Now, the price range.

Food ranges from GHS 25 – GHS 100 & drinks range from GHS 6 – GHS 100.

The owner was sweet, gave us stickers & welcomed us into the restaurant. Our server was also attentive & quick.

They have a good menu, but some things are unavailable on the menu because this is a soft opening. I’m certain more things will be made available eventually. They open Mon. – Sat. with lunch hours 12pm – 3pm & dinner hours 5pm – 9pm.

Go check it out & let me know what you think.

Country Club

Hi, Guys!

I know it’s been a while since my last review, but I’m back with another one!

About a week ago, one of my friends mentioned that he wanted to take me to a new restaurant I had never heard of, & I’m glad we went because it’s a stunning place.

Country Club appears to be a country club [or a developing one] around Trassaco, with a restaurant on the inside, but before you get inside, you drive down a long drive way with a view of this building.

Ernesto’s, found inside the building, is where lunch was actually had. At the door, you’re greeted by the host who takes you to your table & the waitstaff appear almost immediately you sit.

Though the decor was very simple, it was still quite lovely with an open floor plan, lots of light & little couches to sit at, in addition to the regular dining tables.

To drink, I got a glass of Chenin Blanc. I would also like to point out that the waiters brought separate bread “baskets” [they were large plates in fact] for my date & I, so you don’t have to worry about running out of bread, whether you like to share or not.

The menu is Italian so for my main, I got a Pollo alla Valdostana which was basically chicken breast wrapped in ham. It was good. I liked the meal presentation. It was also quite filling without being overwhelming.

For dessert, I got an Oreo Tiramisu which wasn’t bad, but the coffee was a little bitter for my personal taste. I still enjoyed it.

Now, the price range.

Food ranges from GHS 55 – GHS 380. Drinks range in the same general area [I missed specific numbers] except whole bottles of certain drinks that are usually in the four-digit range.

I had a great time & would definitely recommend.

Check them out & let me know what you think.

Captain Yaw’s

Hi Guys!

I’m back with another review! I’ve been meaning to check them out since last year but I finally went this week.

Captain Yaw’s is a fish & chips shop in Osu, Accra. They also do chicken, but I really wanted to try the fish because I don’t think I’ve had authentic fish & chips in Accra.

The menu is very simple, which I’m always a fan of because the longer the menu, the more “We don’t have that” we hear. & I don’t like that.

It’s a cute little space with seating for eating in, but you can also get it to go, which I did.

The owners were also incredibly sweet & attentive, making meal suggestions & double checking [before I even had to] to make sure I got everything I asked for. I always appreciate eateries that do that for their customers.

Now, to eat I got a small fish & chips & I’ll be honest, it wasn’t really small. I got a nice serving of chunky fluffy chips & a lightly battered, nicely seasoned fish. The tartar sauce that came with it just pulled everything together so perfectly. So good.

When I was younger, my mum & I would get fish & chips on the way home from school & it was usually served in paper [as a to-go pack] & I just thought it was so cute that the to-go packs from Captain Yaw’s paid a little homage to that with their newspaper-looking packs, complete with the take-away flier.

Now, the price range.

Food ranges from GHS 8 – GHS 75 and the drinks range from GHS 5 – GHS 12.

I’m definitely going to go back & I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did.

Check them out & let me know what you think.

Vine Accra

Happy New Year Family!

I know we’re well into 2022, but I hope it’s treating you all well! Oh! & Happy 2sDay today!

Now, if you’ve been here a while, you know I did a review on Vine Lounge a few years ago. Vine Lounge however has a new name & location!

Vine Accra moved to Labone late 2021. After all the many videos & photos I saw during the Bronya festivities, I couldn’t wait to check it out.

My favourite thing about the spot is the architecture and…horticulture? It honestly feels like you’re outside of Accra & all things being considered, we all need a little break from our usual surroundings. Such a gorgeous space. Great for vanity shots, too 😉

My drink for the night was a No Jasmine. I like a refreshing drink, especially if it has some kind of a herbal base & this was very good. Had to get more than one.

For starters, we got…all the starters. We got Grilled Chicken wings, Calamari, Guacamole which came with plantain chips. We did get the Truffle Kelewele which was a side, not a starter, but kelewele is a multifaceted gem, so why not?

I can’t even lie, the starters went by quickly. The food was tasty, but simple. There weren’t any gimmicks, just simple & flavourful.

For the mains, I got a Caesar salad. I’ve never had anything like it, to be honest. For all intents & purposes, it was a Caesar salad, but it was also very different.

There were mushrooms & the Parmesan wasn’t in the usual flaky form. It was tomato confit, instead of the usual cherry tomatoes. I absolutely loved it. The flavours, the textures…so so good. I love it when chefs put their own spin on classic dishes & I was very glad this didn’t disappoint.

I usually like fries with my salads, but they don’t do fries so I got another side of truffle kelewele, which was giving sweet potato fries vibes, so I wasn’t too upset.

For dessert, we got the mango cheesecake & the chocolate churros. I was very happy to get a creamy cheesecake, instead of the gelatinous one that plagues this country.

The palm wine was mild, but you could still taste it, which I liked. We all know how I feel about mango, so that was great.

The churros were crunchy, the chocolate syrup was smooth & the pistachio ice cream was creamy. It’s a dessert that you can’t really mess up if you know what you’re doing. We enjoyed it.

Now, the price range.

Food ranges from GHS 10 – GHS 600 and the drinks range from GHS 10 – GHS 13,690.

I had a great time & will definitely be a regular.

Check them out & let me know what you think.

Thanks for reading.

A Lounge

Hi, guys!

I’m back with another review & I’ve been looking forward to this one a lot because it’s such a gem & I can’t wait for you guys to check it out.

A Lounge is a Ghanaian bar & restaurant opposite Zen Garden. It has some continental focus, but mainly serves Ghanaian food. It’s an Afrocentric space, without being cliche. It’s absolute vibes.

There’s the outdoor space downstairs if you just want to people watch, or wait to pick up your food.

One of the really cool things is that most of their cocktails feature Apio, a made-in-Ghana brand that makes…apio. We all know how I enjoy the focus on local/Made-in-Ghana products.

So, on to the matter at hand.

To drink, I got a tropical juice that was so, so good. I don’t know what goes in it, but it is one of the best juices I’ve ever had. Very fresh, without any of the tongue tingles that I’m used to whenever I drink tropical juice.

Apio is a bit harsh for my stomach personally so I didn’t have this, but I just had to mention this warm cocktail A Lounge makes & it’s like a hot toddy, but with Apio. It comes in this dope little warming contraption. It’s under Warm Apio on the menu. You should try it if you’re into that.

Their menu is very simple & easy, which I love because you won’t get a “we don’t have that”.

To eat, I got sizzling goat, chicken khebab, a Greek salad with a side of fries. Now, mind you, I’ve been to this spot at least once a week since I discovered it & the food has never disappointed. Amazing every single time. My dates also got spicy pork and the vegetable fried rice which I tried bits of, & again, so tasty. Every single thing tastes amazing.

I also got something off their dessert menu called the Tootie Frootie, which is an ice cream based dessert, with a special surprise at the bottom of the glass.

I won’t say what it is, so you’ll just have to get it to find out.

Now, the price range.

Food ranges from GHS 5 – GHS 260 and the drinks range from GHS 5 – GHS 150.

I always enjoy A Lounge when I’m there & I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do.

Check them out & let me know what you think.

Thanks for reading.

Bella Afrik

Hi, guys!

Back with another review. Another one I’ve been looking forward to bringing to you guys.

Bella Afrik is an Italian [tropical] restaurant in the general North Ridge area [Afrikiko if you’re familiar]. It’s a nice open space with very rustic furniture.

Waitstaff was very attentive & came to the table almost as soon as I sat down which is always appreciated.

To drink, I got a glass of white wine because…what else would I pair my meal with?

To eat, I got a Caesar salad as a starter/side & it was sooo good! Caesar salads are my favourite kind of salad & it breaks my heart when chefs skimp on the dressing, so I was very happy to get a nicely dressed salad. To top it off, they served it on a bed of garlic bread which was also VERY good. Very fresh, very soft. Like a pillow.

My main was the Rose Salmon Fettucine. A simple pasta meal, which was very tasty. The salmon was very fresh, but I think they accidentally used pappardelle instead of fettuccine but I’m not complaining because I think the pappardelle absorbs more sauce & makes the meal more filling so that was good.

Now, the price range.

Food ranges from GHS 35 – GHS 340 and the drinks range from GHS 15 – GHS 2800.

It was a very simple meal & came relatively quickly. I enjoyed my meal very much.

Check them out & let me know what you think.

La Borracha

Hi, guys!

I’m back with another review. I was really excited to bring this one to you guys, so I’m glad I could.

La Borracha is a Mexican Cantina & Margarita Bar in Labone, next to No. X. It’s very colourful which is a good thing, because it makes it hard to miss. I personally love that the restaurant is by the street which is fun for a little people watching.

The inside is just as colourful with beautiful murals on the ceiling & on the walls. Very Días de los Muertos & I absolutely love that aspect.

My absolute favourite thing on the inside was their side attraction: a selfie mirror. If you know me, you know that’s my vibe! I think it is SO clever!

Alright. Enough about the decor.

To eat, I got pork belly tacos & then some nachos. When I tell you that the pork almost melted in my mouth? Whew! So, so good! It came in three, but was rather filling. A good portion size. It came with guacamole, salsa roja and this other dipping sauce that tasted like a tangy shito. I didn’t ask what it was, but it was very good.

The nachos were also very good. I just wished the cheese has stayed warmer a little longer. But the taste was very good. Everything was so fresh. I was very impressed.

To drink, I had a Santo Cilantro which is a margarita. It was so so refreshing! I wish it came in a bigger glass.

Then I got a Mezcal Mule which was also very refreshing. I’d never had Mezcal, but I think I can get into it.

It came in this short cup, but do not be fooled. It is a full-sized drink & rather strong. I loved it.

Now, the price range.

Food ranges from GHS 25 – GHS 110 & the drinks range from GHS 6 – GHS 190.

I had a lovely conversation with Chris who gave a little history on his drink creations & their names. It was all so very cool. Service was lovely.

Please bear in mind that this is their soft opening still. They are very open to feedback, so do not hesitate to give it.

Go check it out & let me know what you think.
