Pomona

Hi, everyone!

I’m back again with another review.

You guys know how much I enjoy a good restaurant aesthetic, so I was pretty excited to check this spot out.

Pomona is a new Italian restaurant in Osu, tucked away from all the noise & traffic of the Oxford Street.

It is absolutely gorgeous. Even in the night time, it’s beautiful & I personally cannot wait to go in the day so I can fully enjoy the sunshine coming in through the big windows.

But that’s not the point.

To start us off, I had a Limone Verde, which is like a slushie/granita kinda drink. I enjoy lemony drinks for their ability to cut through fats in the food, so it’s usually a staple for me.

While we waited for our official starters, we were brought some breadsticks that I found particularly interesting.

With breadsticks, we’re used to the crunchy, snappy kind, but at Pomona, these were…soft. Like a naan, almost, but cut into strips & kinda chewy. Personally, I loved it.

The breadsticks were very tasty. So much so that they didn’t even need anything else, although the breadsticks came with an oil & a vinaigrette of some kind.

As a starter, I got Zucchine Frite, i.e. Zucchini fries.

Now, if you know me, you know I’m a sucker for fries. I don’t share my fries, I could eat fries several times a day, I love them.

And these? They made the cut! Soooo good. I enjoy vegan options that aren’t boring & this was just that. It also came with a mint aioli [this also cuts through the fat of the fries, so it doesn’t become overwhelming] which was sooo tasty.

My other dates had a variety of starters as well & though I didn’t get a photo of most of them, they were all so good! The Frittura di Mare, which is basically a seafood blend was also nicely done.

If you’re a restaurant who knows what they’re doing, I don’t really think you can get fried seafood wrong. It was tasty & the tartar sauce complemented it very nicely.

To cleanse my palate, I had to get another lemony drink, & the Rosemary Lemonade? I need it bottled & sold in all the supermarkets. So refreshing, so simple, so good.

As a main, I got a Filetto di Manzo, which was basically steak & mash.

Like I’ve said before, there are some things you can’t really mess up if you know what you’re doing as a chef & this was one of those things.

My steak was nicely done at a medium well. The mash was VERY creamy & smooth & the green beans were still slightly crunchy, but still had nice give when you bit into it.

Also, it was VERY filling. With all I had had prior to the main, I couldn’t even finish it. But so good!

Now, I was at a table with a few famous people *wink, wink*, so management sent us over their entire dessert menu, on the house. The sweetest thing about it was that, we were planning on getting dessert ourselves!

They brought us tiramisu, gelato, panna cotta & terra cotta.

The Panna Cotta was the one thing I could not have [it had strawberries & I’m allergic] but when I tell you that everything was good?

Whew. The desserts are a banger. Nothing was too sweet, so you could taste the individual flavours of everything, as well as them complementing each other. My personal favourite was the pistachio gelato, but the table’s fave was the Terra Cotta. So, so good.

Now, the price range.

Drinks range from GHS 7 – GHS 900 & the food ranges from GHS 18 – GHS 140.

I had great fun with my dates. I hope you do too! Check it out & let me know what you think.

Thanks for reading!
