Jamaican food Taste Train

Happy New Year guys!

Back with the first review of 2021.

I was pretty excited to do this one to be honest. I’ve never really had that much Jamaican food. I tried it once a few years ago & since then, nada. Also there weren’t that many options a few years ago, but now? I had a few more to choose from.

First on the Taste Train was Deijha Vu’s Jerk Hut in Airport Residential Area. A brightly decorated food truck, it’s hard to miss.

On the menu for that day was jerk chicken & rice & peas/jollof, that came with a side of fried plantain & steamed veg. I got the rice & peas.

It also came with what I assume is jerk sauce. It was like a sweet, spicy, tangy BBQ shito-stew & it was sooo good. I wished there was more actually because it banged.

It was a lot of food, actually. I had to split it & have some for dinner. The food was tasty, but the rice was a little too soft for me. I like my rice…one-one. But taste-wise? It was really good. You could taste the nuttiness of the coconut, but it wasn’t overpowering. Fleeting, in fact, so that was good.

Second stop on the train was Kingston Kitchen GH. I’ve always wanted to try their food, but as they deliver food on a pre-order basis, I always wanted to make sure I was in the mood for it so I could fully enjoy it.

And that, I did. So so good.

I got the Oxtail Meal which was oxtails, rice & peas, fried plantains & some coleslaw.

The oxtail sauce/stew had butter beans in them, as well as the oxtail, good for extra protein. The oxtails were good, spicy without being overwhelming & the meat? It went down so easy, I think it melted in my mouth.

The rice? The rice was perfect. One-one, just like I like it. The hint of coconut milk was perfect. Just enough where you taste it, but no so much that it distracts you from everything else. Perfect complements.

The plantain was also perfect. Not too soft, not too hard. Firm & sweet, & that’s how ripe plantain should be.

Last stop on the Taste Train was Krave GH.

I’d been seeing their sponsored posts all over the instagrams, so I figured, why not add them to the train?

I got the curried chicken, with coconut rice & peas & dirty fries.

I enjoyed the curried chicken. It was spicy, also without being overwhelming & the chicken was nice & soft.

I can’t say I enjoyed the sides, though. I’m not sure if I was having a bad day, or if they were, but…I did not enjoy them. I’m not sure what I was expecting of the dirty fries, but this was not it. It was just regular fries with a dusting of seasoning. It was a little greasy & just…not good.

The coconut rice & peas was also a little too soft for me & it had hints of sweetness that weren’t immediately noticeable but were slightly distracting after a few bites & I didn’t really like that.

Now, the price range.

Deijha Vu’s was GHS 40

Kingston Kitchen GH was GHS 45

Krave GH was GHS 55

Overall, I actually enjoyed this little Taste Train & seeing as outside is closed again, I might be bringing you more series like these.

All three of these eateries provide delivery for their food so if you’re like me & you don’t want to be outside, but want outside food, there’s your answer. You can check out the IGs of all the food accounts down below:
